화성 위의 이 언덕은 어떻게 만들어진 것일까요? 그 이야기는 하나의 연구 주제가 될 수도 있지만, 그 근처를 굴러가고 있던 화성 위의 자동탐사로버 큐리오시티(Curiosity)에게는 이것의 형태와 두 가지 색조가 이상하게 보였나봅니다. 아이레슨 힐을 뒤덮고 있는 흙더미는 약 5m 높이이며, 좌우로 15m나 뻗어 있습니다. 아이레슨 힐은 화성 위, 게일 크레이터(Gale Crater)의 샤프 산(Mount Sharp) 경사면에 있는 배그놀드 언덕(Bagnold Dune)에 있습니다. 41장으로 이루어진 멋진 이 파노라마 사진은 전체 언덕을 다 보여주기 위해 수평으로 압축한 것입니다. 이 사진은 지난 2월 2일에 촬영되었고 지난주에 공개 되었습니다. 현재 지구에서 바라보았을 때 화성이 태양 뒤편으로 이동하기 있기 때문에, 미항공우주국(NASA)은 조만간 화성의 탐사로버와 궤도위성에게 명령내리는 것을 멈출 예정이며, 거의 8월 1일이 되어서야 재개될 것입니다.

Ireson Hill on Mars

Explanation: What created this unusual hill on Mars? Its history has become a topic of research, but its shape and two-tone structure makes it one of the more unusual hills that the robotic Curiosity rover on Mars has rolled near. Dubbed Ireson Hill, the mound rises about 5 meters high and spans about 15 meters across. Ireson Hill is located on the Bagnold Dune field on the slope of Mount Sharp in Gale Crater on Mars. The featured 41-image panorama has been horizontally compressed to include the entire hill. The image was taken on February 2 and released last week. Because Mars is moving behind the Sun as seen from the Earth, NASA will soon stop sending commands to itsMartian orbiters and rovers until about August 1.
