Explanation: This friendly photo collage is constructed from more than 1,400 images shared by denizens of planet Earth as part of the Cassini Mission's July 19th Wave at Saturn event. The base picture of Earth corresponds to the view from the Saturn-orbiting Cassini spacecraft on that date as its own cameras recorded images including planet Earth as a pale blue dot in the background. Of course, Saturn was 9.65 Astronomical Units away at the time, so it took light from all the waving Earth dwellers just over 80 minutes to travel there. Want to smile? NYSC: 토성을 향한 지구인의 손짓
행성 지구의 거주자 1,400명 이상의 이미지로 만든 이 콜라주에는, 지난 7월 19일에 있었던 카시니 미션의 ‘토성에게 손짓을!’ 행사의 일환으로 이뤄진 ‘우리 서로 잘 해보자’는 뜻으로 지구인들이 토성을 향해 보낸 손짓이 담겨 있습니다. 바탕 화면은 토성-궤도 선회 중인 카시니 우주선에서 본 지구의 이미지로 처리됐습니다. 같은 시간에 카시니의 카메라로 촬영한 지구의 이미지들 중에는 ‘창백한 푸른 점’의 지구가 포함돼 있었던 것입니다. 물론 토성은 당시에 지구에서 9.65 AU 떨어져 있었으므로 지구인들의 손짓이 토성에 도달하는 데 80분 이상 걸렸습니다. 웃고 싶으시다면, 여길 눌러서 원 해상도 28MB의 jpg 파일을 내려 받아 확대해 보시기 바랍니다.
