허셀에서 적외선으로 얻은 영혼 성운
별들은 에티오피아 여왕의 영혼에서 태어나고 있습니다. 더 특별하게, 영혼 성운이라 불리는 거대한 별의 형성지역은 카시오페이아 자리 방향에서 찾을 수 있습니다. 카시오페이아는 그리스 신화에서 오래전 나일강 상류를 둘러싸고 있는 땅을 통치했던 왕의 허영심이 많은 아내입니다. 영혼 성운은 여러개의 산개성단, W5로 알려진 거대전파원, 젊고 무거운 별들에서 나오는 항성풍으로 생성된 거대한 진공 버블들의 거처입니다. 약 6,500광년 떨어진 영혼 성운은 약 100광년 너비로 펼쳐져 있고 일반적으로 천상의 이웃인 하트성운(IC1805)의 옆에서 촬영됩니다. 인상적으로 상세한 이 이미지는 궤도를 돌고 있는 허셜우주망원경에서 적외선의 여러 영역으로 촬영하였습니다.

Explanation: Stars are forming in the Soul of the Queen of Aethiopia. More specifically, a large star forming region called the Soul Nebula can be found in the direction of the constellation Cassiopeia, who Greek mythology credits as the vain wife of a King who long ago ruled lands surrounding the upper Nile river. The Soul Nebula houses several open clusters of stars, a large radio source known as W5, and huge evacuated bubbles formed by the winds of young massive stars. Located about 6,500 light years away, the Soul Nebula spans about 100 light years and is usually imaged next to its celestial neighbor the Heart Nebula (IC 1805). The featured image, impressively detailed, was taken in several bands of infrared light by the orbiting Herschel Space Observatory.
